Authentic Movement
Free-form movement exploration with inner witness for emotional expression
Authentic Movement invites you to move freely with eyes closed, guided by your inner impulses rather than technique or external choreography. A 'witness'—real or imagined—observes without judgment, creating a safe space for genuine self-expression. This practice bridges dance, meditation, and therapy, allowing suppressed emotions and authentic desires to emerge through movement. It's profoundly grounding and can facilitate emotional release, creativity, and self-discovery without requiring any dance experience.

The non-goal-oriented, permission-based nature is ideal for ADHD brains. No right/wrong way means pressure-free exploration.
Authentic Movement originated from the work of Mary Starks Whitehouse, a pioneer in dance therapy, in the 1950s.
