Foraging is identifying and collecting wild edible plants and mushrooms. It's part hike, part puzzle, part 'oh god did I just eat that.' Start with easy IDs: blackberries, dandelions, nettles. Save mushrooms for after a year of experience β or a trusted mentor.
How to start
- 1Download Seek (by iNaturalist) or PictureThis.
- 2Walk in a park. Photograph 10 plants. Learn their names.
- 3Find ONE edible plant you're 100% sure of. Eat a bit.
- 4Buy a regional foraging field guide.
- 5Find a local foraging walk β guides spot things you won't for years.
